| GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS TREE COOKIES | |
|
2 1/2 cups - flour
1/2 tsp. - salt 1/4 tsp. - cinnamon 3 oz. - cream cheese 1 cup - unsalted butter |
1 - egg yolk
1 tsp. - vanilla food coloring (optional) 1 cup - confectioner's sugar 1/4 cup - water |
| Sift the flour, salt, and cinnamon together and set aside. Cream together the cheese and butter. Beat in the sugar; continue blending while adding the egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in the flour, salt, and cinammon mixture (optionally, add green food coloring to get the Christmas tree color) setting and press onto a cookie sheet, or roll out the batter and use a Christmas tree cookie cutter. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 350† F, just till the edges of the cookies turn brown. Stir the water into the confectioner's sugar to make a glaze for the cookies (add more water as needed to get a nice spreadable consistency - food coloring can also be added to the glaze for brighter colors). Spread the glaze on the cookies (can also top with sprinkles, etc. to decorate). | |
